Oxbow GTN-50C

Did you know that a lack of vitamin C is the most common nutritional deficiency in guinea pigs? Luckily, it's also the most preventable. A tablet form of vitamin C, such as Oxbow's GTN-50C, eliminates the guesswork when it comes to making sure pets are receiving a guaranteed, stabilised amount of vitamin C.
Vitamin C or ascorbic acid deficiency is the most common and most preventable disease in guinea pigs. Adults must be supplemented with at least 10 mg of vitamin C for every kilogram of body weight. Pregnant, nursing and growing guinea pigs need at least 30 mg of vitamin C for every kilogram of body weight. Insufficient vitamin C intake leads to a condition known as scurvy. Clinical signs of vitamin C or ascorbic acid deficiency may include rough coat, anorexia, diarrhea, bleeding from the gums, lameness and pain. Delayed wound healing and increased susceptibility to bacterial infections may also occur.
Palatability
The usual supplementation method of adding vitamin C to water often changes its taste, and thus intake may be adversely affected. Daily C has a pleasant flavour and is readily accepted by most guinea pigs.
Guaranteed Intake
Feeding a tablet guarantees that pets receive the entire guaranteed amount of the supplement necessary for optimum health. Supplements lose their potency when added to water. Animals may refuse or reduce the amount of water due to the taste of a water soluble supplement, which may lead to other health problems as well. Feeding a tablet, on the other hand, lets pet owners take the guesswork out of supplements.
Stability
The bioavailability of GTN-50C is substantially higher than that of dissolved sources. Water soluble powders have a low stability in water; only 20% of the vitamin C sources remain after 8 hours in water.

Papaya Tablets

Papaya Tablets are made from freeze-dried papaya and pineapple. Natural enzymes found in both papaya and pineapple may be helpful in the prevention of hairballs. With a taste they love and ingredients they need, this treat is one that can't be resisted.
Oxbow chewable Papaya Tablets are made from the freshest pineapple and papaya available. Papaya Tablets are a natural source of papain and bromelain. These enzymes may help soften food and hair in the stomach.
The scientific community is still undecided on whether feeding papaya or pineapple is really effective. But some rabbit owners claim that supplementing with digestive enzymes is the only way they can prevent hairballs in their rabbits, other owners say they see no difference.
The best prevention for hairballs is an ample consumption of fiber in the diet, provided by large quantities of grass hay.
Always make sure your rabbit is drinking plenty of water, as water consumption plays a big part in maintaining digestive motility thus improving the health and efficiency of the digestive system. As with any treats, be careful not to overfeed. Treats should be offered as a reward and be a minor part of your pets’ daily food intake.
